Hobday (1993) believes that whole and healthy are key words to use to grow spiritually. Hobday's spirit means an awareness, openness and wholeness. Wholeness is the body, mind, spirit and community-sense. As Steve Shindell (1993) once said, "psychological rehabilitation is everyone's responsibility. "
From my perspective, human nature is not basically good or bad. We get paid to learn. We grow from learning. We are approaching goodness. Furthermore, since I believe that every human being has the ability to adapt, a client could be the one to discover more appropriate behaviors for himself. The idea of homeostasis can help clients a lot too. They can learn from this idea that even though life does stink, we still have hope. We get compensated only if we can figure out what upset our balance. Thus, a visually impaired person may cope with his disability in a variety of ways. What we need is just to build a new balance. That is, to think things differently. There will always be hopes for us. Additionally, since my paper focuses on not just one person's idea, it is more flexible in explaining human nature and in curing human problems.
However, there does exist one idea that I can not explain: sacrifice. Sacrifice means that we give up our benefits or even life for others. It is the most unselfish behavior. Since I believe that all behaviors are purposeful and humans are self goal oriented, my paper can not explain this kind of behavior.
Some Eastern philosophers believe in a condition in which we have no needs at all. We believe that this condition is a human being's main goal of life, a goal we call nirvana (Dacey & Travers, 1991). To me, it is a dream to be fulfilled. I believe that the growth of a human being is a learning process that, I hope, could bring us to our final goal. A dream which you may call
it, nirvana or paradise.
