Reflection:
Life is an art. I do not know where to master in it: where
to draw the line between reasonably asking for love and unselfishly giving in.
Love is not envy. But I look at those who are in a committed relationship and I
envy their sweetness. I see elder couples holding hands, I am jealous of their
ageless love. I want to quit. I tried out serving the youth ministry at our
church and my lack of connection with the youth made me realize that this is
not where God is calling me to serve Him. But can I? In a marriage, can I quit?
I still make efforts to do the “right” things. But are they meaningful? I don’t
feel being needed or valued. Christ is my only comfort. I thought to myself:
whatever earthly things are only temporary. This is not my home. My citizenship
is in heaven. Knowing Jesus loves me, knowing who I am in Jesus, is my
assurance.
The Power of Marriage:
v21 “out of reverence of Christ”
~ a willingness to submit to one another/selfless
servant-hood à a
healthy marriage
1. The ability to receive criticism w/t being crushed; a
lack of self-defense
~ In your hear, you can feel secure when you rest in Jesus
knowing what He’s done for you! You have great stability in Jesus in your
vulnerability.
~ “Emotionally, I don’t need to fear any more because Jesus
loves me, the way I am.”
~ Look at the world through Jesus’s eyes. Jesus loves me, His
opinion matters more than anything else to me. I don’t have to be scared of
receiving this kind of criticism. I know
who I am in Christ!
2. The ability to give criticism w/t crushing
~ Remembering Jesus’s gentleness.
3. The ability to forgive w/t residual anger
These abilities are only attainable out of your fear of
Christ. The power of marriage is an unselfishness created by the Spirit.
The definition of
Marriage
The essence of Marriage {what makes your “married”}: a covenant,
public (legal) commitment (cleaving), permanent, exclusive promise to share
your life in ALL aspects
You shouldn’t get married unless sb willing to make that
kind of promise to you, AND you’re willing to make that kind of promise.
Discipline, obligation, responsibilities, submission
The essence of love is a commitment, a commitment to invest
yourself in another human being, and meet their needs. You do the actions of
love.
A feeling
Where your treasure is where your heart is.
The more you love (action), the more you like that person.
Make a decision to love. When you feel dry, find nothing you
like in him, you still love him, invest in him, continue to give him.
You Decide to Love.
The priority of
Marriage
A man shall leave his parents, and cleave to his wife.
V28 “husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies.
He who loves his wife loves himself.”
Marriage is the center of your life, if everything around
you is weak, and your marriage is strong, you have everything.
What else can come before your spouse? Your career? Your
parents? Your children?
You shouldn’t be more concerned about what your parents
want than what your spouse wants.
Marriage is a fresh start, a vehicle of redemption. Leave
old patterns behind you.
Changing diaper: finder is the keeper~
The old has passed, the new has come!
Marriage has the power to change you, the power to show you
who you are.
Marriage Tears you down. Eventually/Essentially, marriage
builds you up.
The purpose of
Marriage is to make you holy, sanctified.
Marriage is not a human invention to make you happy.
God takes your selfishness to against you and make you grow.
