"The accomplishment of an aim or purpose." This is what I got after typing in "definition success" on google search. President Obama and a few states geared up for universal pre-K school program. My husband wondered whether we have done a good job in maintaining grade school already. "Aren't students of grade 1 through 3 supposed to acquire the skills they need to read and do the math?" Asked he.
This reminded me of the U.S. border control issue. Do we really need new laws to carry out old duty?
Have we forgotten the root problem? While few could argue that more strict background check in order to control the possession and availability of guns, many, hopefully, would have spotted the underlying problem in the society.
Haven't we overrated the so-called "normal" and "success?" After receiving an advanced degree, I from time to time struggled with finding a full time job. Why? A full time job (a tenured one) implies capability, favorability (of the review or search committee/faculty), respect, health insurance, higher salary, etc.
Last semester, I was still planning for three course teaching load. Fortunately, it turned out that one school "suggested" me not to take up the offer they laid before me, and another class didn't make this semester. I ended up just teaching one new course. As my belly continued to grow, I came to appreciate His plan for me even before I realized what I actually needed. To me, it's a comfort and sense of peace knowing He is watching out for me.
Not to defend the existing program and say that we should never break away from old traditions. However, when we open our hands and carefully review what we have already, isn't it all enough for us to carry on the journey that new plans/programs would just distract us from the true focus?
