Rachel Norris shared her story with us at the talk of “In His Hand,” a series of our women tapestry ministry. She demonstrated the process of making pottery on the scene. After the clay was in the shape of a specific purpose, it should just sit in the regular temperature waiting for the moisture inside to dry out. For the clay to turn into something useful, sitting and waiting is part of the standard procedure. No rush, no delay.

“Love is waiting” of Brooke Fraser happened to echo the theme of patiently waiting. “I'll give it time, give it space and be still for a spell. When it's time to walk that way we wanna walk it well.” We often say God has the exact timetable for every single detail. We, however, are also eager to see the results of our work of preparation in no time. The patience of waiting for God to reveal the next step in fact reflects our faith and trust in God. Sometimes our perceptions deceive us. We think we are ready for the next task, and then we screw things up quickly. We think we grab the best opportunity, and then later realize God has something even greater for us. “Love is waiting till we're ready, till it's right.”

My singleness is something that annoys me often times. If you are in the same boat of mine, I encourage you to take the most advantage of your free time. After all, once you get married, your time is no longer simply your own time; you are accountable to someone other than yourself and your original family. In addition to thinking of what qualities you want to see in your spouse, enhance your own quality to make you and your future spouse a good match. Ask yourself, “What can I offer my spouse?” “Can we serve God better together than separately?”

Love is waiting, not idling. Actively seek God’s will rather than passively accept whatever happens to you. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7) If you want to know what your destiny is, there is only one way to find out: seek it out. May God’s peace and grace be with you always.
