此曲為加-美搖滾樂團Buffalo Springfield於1967自該團第2張專輯《Buffalo Springfield Again》中所釋放出的單曲，唯是作為另首單曲《Bluebird》的B面。

此曲的主唱為加拿大歌手Neil Young，此位老兄於幼年時不幸感染了「小兒痲痺症病毒 (Polio)」，雖經治療復健，但並未完全康復，至成年後仍受其危害，下背部椎骨被手術切除，故他經常穿戴著背部支架，即使演唱會時也是如此。除了脊椎問題，Young還患有「青少年糖尿病」及「癲癇症」。而此首《Mr. Soul》為Neil Young早期在舊金山一場演出後歷經癲癇發作 ( 觀眾還以為這是表演的一部份 )所寫，歌曲講述了Young的個人問題，以及名氣和對搖滾名星的漠視。曲風感覺有「迷幻」的味道。

Buffalo Springfield樂團才成立了2年左右(1966-1968)，即因有團員吸毒被捕等事件而解散，卻也留下了由吉他手Stepen Stills所寫的經典的政治 ( 反戰 ) 歌曲《For What It's Worth》。之後，Neil Young加入Crosby，Stills & Nash三人樂團而成為CSNY，卻因Stills和Nash為了Rita Coolidge爭風吃醋而解散 ( 1968-1970，之後又兩度重組。)。
