Bonds: A New Record!

Bonds did it - he broke Hank Aaron’s home run record and has become the
new all-time Home Run King!!

As much as I hate him (I actually hate him A LOT), I have to give him
credit for achieving such feat - breaking a Major League home run record

看著 Barry Bonds rounding the bases, 我心中有不同種的感覺

一方面我很討厭他 broke the record
我覺得他的 personality 很假, 又很自我中心, 不管球隊的成與敗, 只在乎自己的
home run record 和自己的 fame, 天天只想打全壘打, 哪有什麼團隊精神.

一方面我也覺得他實在有自己的才能, hand-eye coordination, 揮棒速度, 準確率, hitting for power, consistency, 等等

但是最讓我欽佩的是他的 persistence to break the record
要知道, 能打出美國大聯盟的 HOME RUN Record 是如此一大盛舉!
美國耶! 有多少的歷史! 有多少個 great hitters!
是什麼能讓 Bonds 在眾多精英之中, 還能達成如此創舉!

Bonds 在 2005 年整個人腿都快斷了, 腰都快散了, 最近還面對這麼多 media 的批評 on steroid use, 要成就如此的偉業, 沒有過人的耐力和專注力怎麼可能打破這個紀錄?

所以, 仔細想想之後, 我還是有一點點欽佩他



另外, 我很喜歡 Hank Aaron 給 Bonds 的祝賀辭:

”I would like to offer my congratulations to Barry Bonds on becoming baseball’s
career home run leader. It is a great accomplishment which required skill,
longevity and determination.

”Throughout the past century, the home run has held a special place in
baseball, and I have been privileged to hold this record for 33 of those
years. I move over now and offer my best wishes to Barry and his family
on this historic achievement.

”My hope today, as it was on that April evening in 1974, is that the achievement
of this record will inspire others to chase their own dreams.”
