此曲首由鄉村歌手Jim Mundy於1976錄唱發行，但只得到排行榜第86名。1977，美國鄉村三重唱團體Dave & Sugar翻唱此曲，拿下了告示牌鄉村榜的第2名。

Dave & Sugar於1975由男主唱Dave Rowland找了兩位女生共同組成，走的是「鄉村流行」曲風。此三人團體的第一首單曲為翻唱Dr. Hook的歌曲《Queen of the Silver Dollar》(1972)，即打進排行榜第25名，隔年發行的第2首單曲《The Door Is Always Open》( 同張專輯 )，即奪得排行榜的冠軍。「人紅是非多」，對團體來說也是，之後女團員更迭多次。80年代初期，Dave Rowland嘗試單飛，團體也就解散了。2018，Rowland因中風併發症去世，享年74歲。

Knee Deep的字面意思是「深及膝蓋」，而另也有「深陷於……之中」之意。看來在歌曲中兩種意思都有涵蓋。歌名似乎可譯為「愛你到無法自拔」，倘是遇到這種狀況，而對方又根本不在意，那可真的是「慘兮兮」了。
