此曲為美國鄉村歌手Mel Street於1977所推出的單曲，獲得鄉村榜的第19名。

Mel Street和許多鄉村歌手一樣，也是從在電台及電視節目中表演起家。1969，Mel在一家小唱片公司錄製了他自寫的首支單曲《Borrowed Angel》。1972，被另家唱片公司購入重新發行，竟然成為鄉村榜的第10名，Mel也因此正式出道。Mel共有13首打進鄉村榜前20名的歌曲，卻未有任何一首的冠軍曲，但這並不代表他的歌曲不好聽，此首《Barbara Don't Let Me be The Last to Know》台長個人就很喜歡。

由歌名及歌詞內容來看，此曲也可列為「心碎」歌曲。感情的降溫甚或變心，雖然對方多少都會有所感覺，但在未確定之下似又不太方便攤開來說，因此往往成為「最後一個知道」被分手的。歌曲的男主角在歌曲一開始就希望找女方談，若對方有找到「a stronger feeling in someone else's arms」，自己也願意放手。另，歌詞中「But I was the first to hold you and I was the first to touch you」，曾經是為「第一」，故也不想淪為「最後」，這個邏輯也是滿有趣的。

Mel Street患有重度憂鬱症及酗酒的問題，1978，在他45歲生日的當天，開槍自轟身亡 ( 尊重生命，請撥打安心專線1925。)。他的偶像George Jones在他的葬禮上唱讚美詩歌《Amazing Grace / 奇異恩典》。
