雖然這首歌曾由Porter Wagoner在1965奪得了鄉村排行榜的第4名，但真正成為紅遍全球的冠軍歌曲，卻是Tom Jones ( 湯姆瓊斯 )在1966的版本。

Tom Jones 出自英國南威爾斯的礦工家庭，年輕時不太愛上學和運動，除了以歌唱的天賦贏回了自信，也以唱歌唱出了他傳奇的人生。唱片的總銷售量超過了一億張，為表彰其對流行音樂的特殊貢獻，英國女王伊莉莎白二世還冊封他為爵士。

1967，Tom Jones開始在拉斯維加斯登台演唱，渾厚的嗓音加上緊身褲和敞胸襯衫的粗獷裝扮，讓聽歌的婦女陷入了一片瘋狂，許多女士還將飯店房間的鑰匙擲上台，台灣的電視熱門音樂節目亦曾播放現場演唱影帶，上述情況真的是沒有半點誇張。那時應是他最爆紅的時候，我還記得有新聞報導說他連內褲都是訂做的。Tom Jones其他的歌曲像是《Delilah》和《She's a Lady》應也是台灣歌友較為熟悉和喜歡的。

這首《Green Green Grass of Home》翻唱者眾，像是民謠女王Joan Baez和貓王等，我覺得他們也都唱得不錯，各有各的風味。
