Jinmian Mountain in Neihu

A Tale of Taipei’s Mountains: Jinmian Mountain in Neihu

Jinmian Mountain is located on the northwestern side of Taipei City’s Neihu District, standing at a height of 252 meters above sea level. The name Jinmian literally means “Golden Face” in mandarin, which originates from the shining reflection of the mountain’s quartzite when the sun climbs high in the sky. The mountain is also nicknamed Scissor Rock Mountain, due to its shape.

You can climb up Jinmian Mountain on a hiking trail, the entrance to which can be found in Lane 136, Huanshan Road Sec. 1. The stone steps of the trail were hewn from local quartzite. Halfway up the slope, you will also encounter a Qing-dynasty quarry and observation platform – a great location to view the scenery.

As you climb up the steep trail, you will see the scenery change and the vegetation increase in diversity. When you finally see the gigantic stones at the top after laboriously conquering Jinmian Mountain, you will definitely stand in speechless praise of nature’s marvels.

The hiking trail is a must-visit for those who wish for both the physical challenge of hiking and the pure pleasure of sightseeing on the weekend. The magnificent giant rocks on top of Jinmian Mountain will make you reflect on how small humans are in the face of nature.
