英國樂團Smokie最早成立於1963，一路跌跌撞撞，未有好成績的表現。一直到1971，樂團經紀人換成電台出身的Dave Eager，此時主唱Chris Norman卻因遭到連續的病毒感染而影響到了聲帶，等復元後變得較為沙啞 ( 難道這是上帝的禮物，讓他的聲音變得較為獨特？)。之後樂團簽進了Decca唱片公司，也發行了幾首單曲，但最後還是以失敗告終。

在Decca期間，經紀人爭取到成為Peter Noone ( 前大名鼎鼎的英國樂團Herman's Hermits的主唱 ) 伴唱樂隊的試唱機會。後不僅試唱過關，還被要求成為固定的班底，不久後也展開了巡迴演唱。而Peter Noone並未替這幾位年輕人帶來好運，倒是遇到了位Bill Hurley老兄，自願來來擔任樂團的經理人，並說服Dave Eager放棄與Noone的合約，另安排了其他的演唱機會。由於Bill Hurley的關係，樂團被介紹給知名的作曲雙人組合Nicky Chinn和Mike Chapman。此首《If You Think You Know How To Love Me》即為該倆人所作，1975單曲發行後，在歐洲許多國家均入榜成為熱門曲，在英國則勇奪第3，且停留了9週。此曲也算是Smokie的成名曲。




suzi quatro

依據Hurley和Chinnichap ( 倆人的合名縮寫 ) 原本的設計，要樂團學Suzi Quatro穿皮衣 ( Chinnichap曾替Suzi Quatro寫歌及製作 )，但四人寧願著牛仔褲裝扮。此曲發行時，樂團才又正式更名為Smokey，但偏偏有位美國歌手Smokey Robinson認為會和他的名字造成混淆，並揚言提告，為免爭議才又改為Smokie。Smokie樂團至今仍有活動，但主唱Chris Norman早於1986離團單飛。少了Chris Norman，感覺Smokie就整個的不對味了。
