1964年的5月21日，原本已排定The Drifters合唱團要來錄這首《Under The Boardwalk》，但主唱Rudy Lewis卻在前一天被發現死在旅館的房間 ( 27歲 )，死因並不明確，而極有可能是服用海洛因過量。結果錄製延後了一天，主唱由另位團員Johnny Moore頂替上陣 ( 之後也一直繼續擔任主唱 )。此曲於同年6月發行後，獲得告示牌熱門100排行榜的第4名，另在錢櫃R&B排行榜為非連續性的3週冠軍。



翻唱此曲的知名歌手眾多，包含有The Rolling Stones、Bette Midler、Tom Tom Club、Lynn Anderson及Bruce Willis ( 沒錯，就是主演電影《終極警探》的布魯斯威利 ) 等等，而且每個版本都能入榜及有還不錯的成績。此曲也被譯成西班牙文，由阿根廷的搖滾樂團Los Gatos Salvajes收錄在1965與樂團同名的首張專輯中。

此首歌中的Boardwalk，指的是海邊那種供人散步的木板道。歌中的男女主角，為了避開人群，帶了條毯子，躲在木板道下幽會，感覺氣氛滿不錯的。只是不知有無蚊子，否則恐怕還要多準備一盤蚊香。^^
