美國流行歌曲才女作家Carole King，某日在家彈奏一段旋律，其夫婿Gerry Goffin見一旁在做瑣事的褓姆Eva Boyd隨著音樂在舞動，因此激發Goffin寫出這首關於新創舞蹈的《The Loco-Motion》。Eva Boyd當時才17歲，是經由The Cookies ( 非裔三人女子合唱團體 ) 介紹到Carole King家中照顧小孩及做些清潔工作 ( 而King也才19歲，Goffin則是22 )，由於之前知道Eva Boyd的歌喉還不錯，就帶她去錄製了此曲的demo帶。




此曲原屬意由當紅的黑人女歌手Dee Dee Sharp來唱，但被打了回票。後被與Goffin & King合作的唱片製作人Don Krishner聽到demo帶，認為Eva Boyd唱得也很OK，就決定由她正式來錄唱，並替她取名為Little Eva。

此曲於1962發行後，登上了美國排行榜的冠軍。下一個年代，1974，美國樂團Grand Funk Railroad翻唱此曲，亦獲得排行榜的冠軍。成為歷來由不同藝人演唱，而都獲得冠軍的9首歌中的第2首 ( 第1首亦為Goffin和King所寫的《Go Away Little Girl》)。再下一年代，1988，澳洲女歌手Kylie Minogue ( 凱莉米洛 ) 也翻唱獲得排行榜第3名。連續三個世代均入榜前5名，也算是項記錄了。

Loco有「瘋狂」之意，Motion的名詞為「動作、舉動」，將Loco-Motion譯為「火車頭舞」( or火車舞？)，從歌曲的內容及唱片封套上的火車圖片，的確也符合寫歌者想新創舞蹈引領流行的原意。而也有人就直接譯為「洛克舞」。歌詞的描述多為「自己舞動」，應該也適合跳「排舞」，可惜那時尚未發明。YouTube上有眾人依歌曲所述，搭著肩或腰連成像火車的一列或兩列，繞著圓圈跳，很High，也頗有趣。
