這首《Everytime You Go Away》是美國歌手兼歌曲作家Daryl Hall所寫，並與另位歌手John Oates合唱，收錄於其1980發行的專輯《Voices》中，且未發行單曲 ( 故未有入榜名次的問題 )。1985，英國歌手Paul Young翻唱此曲，除了奪得美國告示牌排行的第一名，也成為國際熱門的唱銷曲，但也是他進榜前10名的兩首歌曲中，唯一的一首冠軍曲。



其實，Daryl Hall創作此曲，腦中所想的是福音和靈魂歌曲的曲風，而Paul Young的版本則添加了一些商業的元素，除了將旋律放緩使更有抒情感，在伴奏樂器部份使用了電西塔琴、鋼琴，以及由知名貝司手Pino Palladino彈奏「無衍貝司 ( fretless bass ) 和空心吉他等。

自己的歌曲由別人唱紅，看似是被打臉，但Daryl Hall卻頗有風度，不僅誇讚Paul Young的演唱功力，也認為在所有Hall & Oates的歌曲中，這是他最喜歡的一首翻唱歌曲。或許，為數不少的版稅收入，才是讓他喜歡的真正原因吧！

everytime其實不是一個字，應該分開，唸成every time。而許多寫歌者常會故意弄個錯誤語法的歌名，用意是想吸引一些關注吧！Hall & Oates的原唱版本也曾出現在2009由凱薩琳麗塔瓊斯主演的電影《The Rebound》( 台譯：愛情逆轉勝)中。
