此曲為Carole King的前夫Gerry Goffin與人合寫，1973由黑人女歌手Thelma Houston首錄發行，唯未見有何入榜成績資料。 ( Thelma Houston與惠妮休斯頓無任何親戚關係 )

 

1975，Motown唱片公司和Paramount影片公司合拍了一部電影《Mahogany》( 台譯：紅木，陸譯：桃花心木 )，影片的女主角由Motown的女歌手Diana Ross出任，當然也就由Ross親自來演唱電影的主題曲，也就是這首《Do You Know Where You're Going To》。結果，影片的成績好像不怎麼樣，而主題曲卻是大紅特紅，不僅拿下告示牌和錢櫃排行榜的冠軍，還被提名電影奧斯卡獎的最佳歌曲。

原唱Thelma Houston被Ross給比了下去，想來一定有些嘔。還好的是，Thelma 在1976推出另首《Don't Leave Me This Way》，並在隔年為她贏得了一座「最佳節奏藍調女歌手」的葛萊美獎，也算是爭回了一些面子。

 

翻唱此曲的還有「翹臀珍」─Jennifer Lopez、「花蝴蝶」─Mariah Carey等，連「超級天王」─Michael Jackson也來軋上一腳，算是各有千秋吧。
