U12 Would you like to try some dim sum?

1) Getting Started

  Review the future tense expressions, for example:

  Mari will _________________________________

  Hassan is going to __________________________

  Isaac won’t ________________________________

  Veronica isn’t going to ________________________

  Possible answers:

  Mari will study English tonight.

  Hassan is going to cook lunch soon.

  Isaac won’t live in this city next year.

  Veronica isn’t going to do exercise this afternoon.

2) Listen and practice  (p.76)

  Vocabulary and expressions (必背單字)

* chopsticks

* cucumber

* delicious

* dim sum

* dip

* entertaining

* samosas

* shrimp

* soy sauce

* tacos

學生遵照聽力做法:

1. You have to work with a partner to predict the missing words in the conversation.

2. Go over any unfamiliar vocabulary and ask your teacher, Jenny (me), if necessary.

3. We need volunteer pairs to roleplay the conversation, inserting your predictions.

4. Listen to the audio once, or twice as needed. Then, please complete the conversation.

5. Go over the answers with your partner.

3) Offering and accepting or refusing food (pp77-78)

  Vocabulary and expressions (必背單字)

  *allergic

  * vegetarian

  1. pay attention to the rising intonation of the questions, e.g

  2. You are going to hear four conversations. Make sure you understand that you should first check the correct question and then write the response you hear.

  Check your answers with your partner.

4) Language Note

  Count and non-count nouns:

  1. identify count and no-count nouns when using some and a/an

    Count nouns have a plural form:

    -s, or –es   is added to the end of the word, for example:

    Apples, nuts, chips

    Non-count nouns do not have a plural form:

    Juice, water, ice, etc.

  2. When offering food or drink with Would you like….?  

Non-count nouns will always take the adjective “some”  

e.g. Would you like some ice? 

Count nouns will take a/an in the singular, and some in the plural

    e.g. Would you like an apple?

       Would you like some peanuts?
