Thefirst time the sun rose on thine oath

Tolove me, I looked forward to the moon

Toslacken all those bonds which seemed too soon

Andquickly tired to make a lasting troth.

Quick-lovinghearts, I though, may quickly loathe;

And,looking on myself, I seemed not one

Forsuch man’s love-more like an out- of tune

Wornviol, a good singer would be worth

Tospoil his song with, and which, snatched in haste,

Islaid down at the first ill-sounding note.

Idid not wrong on thee. For perfect strains may float

‘Neathmaster-hands, from instruments defaced,-

Andgreat souls, at one stroke, may do and dote.

 

 

Love Forever

The poet develops the theme” love forever” in“sonnet 32”in many ways;
there are some examples in this great poem.

Firstly, she  uses the first eight lines to show her uncertainty of love
and to question herself,
for example,” looking on myself,

I seemed not one for such man’s love”.
She thinks she isn’t worthy of the man’s love

 and she is not good enough for him.
In the fifth line,” Quick loving heats,

I thought may quickly loathe,” in her mind,
due to her uncertainty, love that comes quickly can quickly turn to hate.
Secondly, she uses the last six lines to show the answer and solution,
such as” I did not wrong myself, so but I places a wrong on thee.”
She thinks she underestimates the man’s love.
She realizes the love can inspire her soul.
Even through she isn’t a perfect woman for him,

 she feels more confident.

Finally, she uses in the twelfth line, the most touching part of this poem,
”perfect strains may float neath master hands,from instruments defaces.”
She images that he is a musician and she is the terrible instrument,
but she thinks that beautiful music can be played
by a master musician no matter how terrible the instrument is.
The poet also uses contrasts in the poem; such as sun and moan,
love and loathe , slacken and tied,
ill sounding note and perfect staring to show her deep stream of thought.
Future more,she uses alliteration, assonance,
consonance and simile to make this beautiful love poem sound smooth
and the reader can read out loud easily.

As a great poet, she write this poem to show people

“ true love can last forever”.
