它的旋律是瑞典的民歌。歌詞取自瑞典詩人卡爾古斯塔夫博貝格

Carl Gustav Boberg (1859–1940) 1885年作的詩。後由Stuart K. Hine 把它

翻譯成英文並又另加入兩段經節組成的。英國BBC選它為2001年基督教

雜誌中最喜愛的讚美詩裡排名第二，僅次於“奇異恩典”（Amazing Grace）。

原唱者是知名美國搖滾樂歌手與演員貓王: 埃爾維斯·普利斯萊 (Elvis Presley )，
他唱此曲連續得過三次葛萊美獎，42歲逝世的藝人(1935年~1977年)。

從小對福音音樂非常著迷，家裏附近的黑人貧民窟旺盛的節奏活力，還有藍調、民謠亦吸引著貓王的耳朵。之後一家搬至曼菲斯(Memphis, TN),對貓王有非常大的影響，因為他的音樂根源，便是來自曼菲斯的黑人靈魂樂及R&B，再結合白人鄉村樂，形成他後來特有的音樂與演唱風格。

貓王沒有在美國以外的地方表演過一次，但他的他的歌聲在1956年以後形成一股旋風，超越了種族及文化的疆界，成千上萬的樂迷遍及全世界，一位不朽的搖滾樂歌手，也永遠活在時代裡。
