作曲者羅爾夫‧勒夫蘭（Rolf Løvland，1955 ─），生於挪威，於挪威音樂研究院（Norges musikkhøgskole）獲得碩士學位。勒夫蘭與小提琴手芙露娜‧雪莉（Fio­nnuala Sherry）組成新世紀音樂團「神秘園」（Secret Garden），擔任作曲家兼鍵盤手。他的音樂洋溢熱情，卻又樸實無華；旋律舒緩柔美­，卻充滿著思憶與淡淡的哀愁，賦予樂曲流動的生命。神秘園的代表作有〈你鼓舞了我〉（Y­ou Raise Me Up）、〈夜曲〉（Nocturne）等。作詞者布倫丹‧格雷厄姆（Brendan Graham，1945 ─），為愛爾蘭小說家和歌曲作家。 

本曲最初題為「寂靜的故事」（Silent Story），是一首器樂作品；勒夫蘭讀了格雷厄姆的小說後深受感動，故邀請他填詞。­〈你鼓舞了我〉收錄於神秘園2002年的專輯《紅月》（Once in a Red Moon），由愛爾蘭歌手布萊恩‧甘迺迪（Brian Kennedy）演唱，頗受歡迎，之後為許多歌手翻唱，成為今日家喻戶曉的名曲。

〈你鼓舞了我〉旋律改編自傳統愛爾蘭的〈倫敦德里小調〉（Londonderry Air），主歌以疲憊的心靈、不安的悸動鋪陳「你」的出現，副歌將「你」鼓舞「我」的力量充分發揮，段落對比之間流露出振奮人心的力量。
