會想翻譯【以父之名】的原因是偶然看到了Youtube上面有一個網友說他的母語是阿拉伯文，而他非常喜歡這首歌，希望能瞭解歌詞的涵義；我覺得【以父之名】的主旋律好聽之外，歌詞實在寫得太好了，把黑手黨的冷血、殘酷和位在頂點的寂寞濃縮在短短的五百字以內，不由得佩服黃俊郎這位填詞人。
MV本身很明顯地是向【教父/ The Godfather, 1972】系列致敬，許多名場景都在其中重現（教堂、在階梯上倒下的一幕、葬禮…等）；MV劇情也與【教父】相呼應，主角小時候目睹父親被黑幫設局陷害，長大後設法取得當年那些黑幫的信任，進行一連串的復仇計畫……。
整首歌寫得最好的一句詞是「榮耀的背後刻著一道孤獨」，刻劃出黑手黨教父的表面風光底下其實承受著旁人無法想像（沒人能說沒人可說）的罪惡（仁慈的父我已墜入看不見罪的國度）和孤獨；和深不見底的黑暗，沒有出口的悲哀。
副歌的第二段（天空是濛濛的霧 父親牽著我的雙手 輕輕走過 清晨那安安靜靜的石板路）渲染出安詳靜謐的氛圍，與暴力、復仇等主題成為極大的反差；這也呼應了教父電影所塑造的黑手黨形象：在那優雅的舉止，貴族的外貌之下的是一個沾滿鮮血的家族。
最後來離題一下，聊聊「媚俗」這件事。曾經很討厭周杰倫，覺得很煩，作為一個假文藝青年當然要和流行音樂劃清界線。但是這首歌實在很對我的胃口，主旋律和歌詞都可以說是達到了藝術的境界，於是我陷入了理性（劃清界線！）與感性（好好聽，怎麼辦）的掙扎之中……聽起來很蠢，但我的確認真思考這個問題很長一段時間。最後我得到的結論是：不要因為某個人（樂團）的地位或受歡迎程度而影響他（們）的作品；就算是Beatles也有不好的歌啊，反過來說不怎麼樣的團體也會有一兩首很棒的歌。繼續推論下去，我自己的想法變成了「喜歡就是喜歡，不需要為了別人的想法（譬如樂評）而受影響」。就像我之前提到的，喜好這種東西是很獨裁的，旁人沒有置喙的餘地。
