Rhinestone( 萊茵石 ) 是出自萊茵河的一種透明石英，也是俗稱的「水鑽」( 而現今將一些仿製的彩色玻璃寶石或假鑽均稱之為Rhinestone )。由於Rhinestone光耀閃亮，常被藝人用來綴飾秀服。Rhinestone Cowboy ( 萊茵石牛仔 )意為「穿著漂亮鑲水鑽秀服的牛仔」。

這首《Rhinestone Cowboy》是Larry Weiss所寫，並於1974首錄發行於其專輯之中，然而，好像也沒有造成什麼商業上的迴響。當時，Glen Campbell正在澳洲作巡迴演唱，恰巧從車上的收音機聽到了這首歌。歌曲大意是述說一位尚不得志的鄉村歌手，心中渴望有朝一日能像穿著水鑽秀服的牛仔般的功成名就。Glen Campbell雖然在60年代後期即已成名，但感覺當時的事業遇到些瓶頸，認為這首歌簡直就像是在唱他，當下決定回去後要學唱這首歌。

Glen Campbell的翻唱版本於1975年推出後，立即獲得流行和鄉村音樂聽友們的注意，並在該年夏天，同時得到了流行榜及鄉村榜的冠軍。這也是Campbell銷售成績最好的一張單曲，除了獲得鄉村音樂協會、學院及美國音樂獎等獎項，也被題名葛萊美獎年度最佳歌曲，而可惜並未獲獎。
