It was my first time to watch Hungarian film and it gives me a very good first impression. This film tells an ex-bourgeois, Bulcsu felt tired of life competing with one another and struggled hard to be the best one. He left his high job and starts to work in the underground station, in Budapest Metro, as a ticket inspector, hoping that he could get out of all those competitions and crowds. He stayed there 24 hours a day he even sleeps there after work without going up to the ground.
In the underground, he started his adventure, checking tickets of the passengers who are never cooperative and almost none of them buy a ticket, they use every method to make them cooperate and there are some breath-taking and heart-beating chasing scenes, the race with rival inspector- running from one station to the next one on the rail when a train is following behind them, meeting his love, a rabbit-clothing girl, Szofi, who is his favourite metro driver friend's daughter, and seeing the masked killer who pushed the careless passengers off the platform to the rail while a training is approaching.
The whole film creates an amazing atmosphere, with beautiful cinematography and colours which remind me of the film “Underworld”. Every piece of music cuts in the right scenes, especially the scene where the masked killer was chasing after Bulcsu while the beat of music amazingly matches their running steps, music and the scene just matches perfectly. Besides, the casts are outstanding, they fit the roles so well though they're weird and not good-looking.
I love the story as it tells your inner fantasy, imagination and fear about mysterious underground station and also tells the from the side of those ticket inspectors, about their life, work, pressure and difficulties, so next time, as a passenger, be cooperative!
It's a film absolutely surreal and cult, like when those ticket inspectors are always bleeding or bruise on their faces, the rabbit-clothing Szofi, mysterious dream in which he crawled in the tunnel and found the killer hiding there and party in the underground etc. The production team of this film is stronger as well as the young director and script writer Nimrod Antal. I would say it is my favourite film among all those I've seen in Hong Kong International Film Festival.
