As a sophomore for these weeks, I start to envy those freshmen in my department. While I was a freshman, I always had time to watch movies on the seventh floor in the library. Even more, I had time to fool around with my classmates. But, now, everything changed. Take literary class for example, in my freshman year, there was only one literary class, an introduction to western literary; in my sophomore year, there are more than two classes for literature such as English Literature, Drama, and the like. Now, I am thinking that “Is it a good choice to major in English?”
When I was a senior high school student, English was my favorite subject. Meanwhile, I found that reading English was fun without pressure. Maybe, that was why I choose English as my college major because I love English. But, now, my thought changed a lot. Form now on, I have to study English for exams, made me feel pressure. Besides, the most difficult part of majoring English is studying literature.
I don’t think I am not a genius of literature. If there is only one literary class, I think I can cram for it; if there is more than one, I think I would be crazy. But, in my opinion, if I still feel frustrated about studying literature, I won’t improve a lot. So, in my view, the most important thing is to find a way to help me to study in a simple way.
Literature, I think, plays an important role in the filed of English. Even, I think literature is like a condensed culture. We can learn the culture from its own literature. Meanwhile, it would be a good way to make us be broad human beings.
All in all, I think it is just a beginning of majoring English. In the future, I may need to read more literature. I won’t be defeated in such an early time. I still have a long road to go. Maybe, one day, I would good at literature. No matter what, I should be hard-working, or being good at literature would just a dream.
