This week there was a special guest visiting NTU. Prof. A. Wagner, the Director of DESY(Deutsches Electronen Synchrotron), gave a talk to introducing the next generation of accelerator.TESLA. During the speach, he pointed out that the cost of build accelerator will be more expensive in the future so that the scientists of the whole world have a common idea--human only need "two" accelerators in the future. One is the proton-antiproton collider which is built in CERN named LHC and the other is the Electron-Positron collider. These two kind collider have complementary goals. From the situation now, the TESLA is the most possible accelerator of next generation. As I knew, the truth is Japanese and American also want to build this kind machine. However, their schedule is too slow. The reason is difficult but I guess the money is the main domination. If all things will be smooth, this plan will include 7,000 scientists involving and 150M Euro.
TESLA is a huge complex mechine which can prove electron energy higher than 500 GeV. It is the boundary of human knowledge now. Standard model can only predict the energy below this region. I can't imagin what will happen above this energy? Does Higgus really exist? Is the supersymmetry correct? Can we find out what is "dark" matter? Can we find out the hint of God's hand? All this dreams make me feel excited.
In the evening, the students of lab had a chance having dinner with Prof. Wagner. He was a really big guy. About 1.9 m, he told us. However, he was very kind and smile to answer our questions. However,
during the dinner, the director of my lab,prof. Wei-shu Hou, talked about the plan in the future. The situation became very serious. They talked many politics. For example, the source of money, how keep cooperators harmonic,especiall this was a team of 7,000 people,etc.. "That is the real world" Prof. Hou said to us finally. Even if we only want to do physics, we still need to face many problems of real world.
