The 50th Anniversary of the San Francisco Peace Treaty
The San Francisco Peace Treaty was signed between Japan and 48 countries at the War Memorial Opera House located in San Francisco, USA, on September 8, 1951. In doing so,
Japan regained its sovereignty and returned to the international community. 2001 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the treaty.
Design
The War Memorial Opera House, where the San Francisco Peace Treaty was signed, is designed on the upper part of the stamp, with autumn flowers commonly seen in Japan, including Chinese bellflowers, chrysanthemums, fringed pinks, and bush clovers on the bottom, as the treaty was signed in September. The overall image is depicted like maki-e (decorative technique used in lacquer ware), and the flowers are expressed like ra-den (mother-of-pearl inlay).
Note: Names are given in the Japanese order with the surface name first followed by the given name.
去年（2001年九月八日）為「舊金山對日和平條約」簽字五十週年，二次世界大戰的戰敗國—日本，為此發行紀念郵票，此一勇於面對歷史的態度，值得肯定與敬佩。是值台灣國家正名運動全面展開，我們呼籲台灣郵政當局盡速更改郵票設計，將TAIWAN植以醒目位置，Republic of China僅以ROC代之，以傳達世界，此一動作為我台灣國家正名運動之重要里程碑。同時發行紀念郵票，以流通國際社會，為台灣國家正名開創新局。
