Spectral types are difficult knowledge content

Spectral types are difficult knowledge content and will be found in almost every year in the National High School Exam. The following article will summarize the most complete content about Spectral Types with exercises. Please refer to this exam so that you do not lose points for this test!

What is spectrum?

The main spectrum is a range of colors that closely resembles the colors of a rainbow when affected by light dispersion. Therefore, the term spectroscopy is used to measure radiation intensity and to describe experimental spectral methods.

Spectral types

According to physics knowledge 12, spectra include the following 3 types: continuous spectrum, absorption line spectrum, emission line spectrum. See pictures of Spectral Types below:

1. Continuous spectrum

Spectral type Continuous spectrum

Definition: Is a band of light whose color changes continuously from red to purple.

Characteristics: Does not depend on the structure of the light source but depends on the temperature of the light source.

The higher the light source temperature, the wider the spectrum will be in the short-wavelength light region.

Source: Gases, liquids, solids, when heated at high pressure.

Application: Use To measure the temperature of hot objects when they are at high temperature such as: stars.

2. Emission line spectrum

Spectral type:Emission line spectroscopy

Definition: Spectrum with distinct colored lines on a dark background.

Characteristics: Each chemical element will have its own line spectrum that is specific to that element.

The emission line spectrum of different elements will be different in terms of quantity position, color and relative brightness.

Source: Low pressure gas, vapor and when excited by heat, electricity.

Application: Used to analyze the structure of substances.

3. Absorption line spectrum

Spectral type: Absorption line spectroscopy

Definition: A spectrum that is continuous but has some color lines missing due to absorption by gas or vapor.

Characteristics: Dark lines are located at the positions of colored lines in the emission spectrum of chemical elements.

When placed on the path of a white light beam of a solid/liquid on the background of a continuous spectrum, it will appear dark lines.

Emitting source: The temperature of the gas/vapour cloud is lower than that of the continuous light source.

Application: Used to analyze the structure of substances.

Spectral analysis methods and benefits

1. Method of spectral analysis

Spectral analysis method

There are two types of spectral analysis methods:

Qualitative analysis: is the determination of the constituent elements of a specimen using line spectroscopy.

Quantitative analysis:

+ Determine the temperature of the sample studied by using continuous spectroscopy.

+ Determine the concentration of the constituents of the studied sample by using the luminous intensity of the spectral lines, thereby detecting the very small concentration of cit of the sample.

2. Benefits of Spectral Analyzes

- For more accurate and faster analytical results when using chemical analysis.

- Can analyze remotely and provide information on temperature and chemical composition.
