Chi-Ding sea-water baths

Chiding sea-water baths is very famous since early stage, it is always crowed with tourists especial in the summer, some musician even created its own song. Those documents are kept in ministry of town today.
Sea-water bath is run by local people, opening 24 hours, 7 days a week. It is multi purpose including cafeteria, accommodation, sea-watching building, kids amusement park …… and so on.
Sea-water bath is close to shoreline province rd. To convenient tourists, Taiwan railway administration set a booth in chiding station that is next to chunan station, both express and local express are reachable. The shoreline maintains regularly.
The straight coastline shines under golden color sunlight. Looking down Taiwan strait, sea links with sky and reflects the sunset. What a fantastic view it is!
Snake kiln

Transportation: go central area second national freeway, down Chunan interchange, alone west shoreline province rd to Taiwan 13th province rd. toward south about 10 mins, follow the index.
Chunan kiln industry aim to mark life-appliances in early stage for example jag and urn. Snake kiln is a characteristic of pottery. It is known by its form and structure, a cylindrical exterior, a tunnel interior. The first step for making a pottery figurine is that heats the head of kiln and seals the entrance of kiln, then keeps heat by 2 sides of windows, after its cool by natural, finally, open the kiln. Because factories produce potteries efficiently, snake kiln decline gradually. In present, most of kilns are opened for touring; of course, snake kiln is one of them.
The traditional snake kilns that Keep in the best condition and continuing produce potteries are in Gunguan Li, Chunan town. It is made by a master worker, Tianfu- Ling, in 1972, 17 m in long. Nowadays, it becomes a folk craft and also a good activity which suits for whole family.

Chunghe-Jeng grave

1.1st Taiwan province Rd., enter Houlung, turn 6th province Rd. toward Miaoli direction, Chunghe-Jeng grave is around the corner.
2. take Xinchu bus toward Miaoli at Houlung station, got off in Shrbankeng parking area, walk along 6th Taiwan province Rd. about 5 mins.
Mr. Jengs’ is very famous in Taiwan. Their ancestor, Chunghe-Jeng, was original living in Keemen province then immigrated to Taiwan, finally settled in Houlung town during the serious conflict between Chunan and Juang 2 states. He was an enthusiastic person and reconciled with 2 parties; moreover, he promoted the education when the literary did not common accept in the society. Later on, his son, Yungshi-Jeng, passed the biggest exam able to be official in high rank, therefore, the ch’ing imperial government granted him an official title. After his death, he was buried in official grave.
It was built in Ch’ing dynasty (1827) and repaired in 1967 by their offspring. It was made of granite.
There was stood 2 sides of stone horses, sheep, tigers and pencils against one another form inner toward outer in the tomb.
The stele in the entrance is rare in this country. It was special given by government for protecting their offspring.
There are full of its historical value such as perfect form and graceful structure so that the Ministry of Interior declared this grave a national monument with a second class rank in 1985. It is an important historic site for cultural system in Ch’ing dyneasty and Taiwan pioneer priod.
Chryun temple

Chryun temple is close to Houlung back station, main worship Maju deity then ground god and birth deity. It was built in 1770, the oldest temple in Huolung town. The direction is “seating in north facing in south”
慈雲宮鄰近後龍火車站主祀媽祖，正殿媽祖神像左右配祀福德正神（土地公）、註生娘娘；相傳建於清乾隆三十五年（西元一七七Ｏ年），至今已超過兩百三十年，是後龍鎮內歷史最久的廟宇。此宮方位坐北朝南，格局分正殿與左右兩廂房。
Huolung was located in the neck of the stream. it used to be a prosperous city. Besides, Maju is the Goddess of sea, no doubt, the temple is also dedicated to her. There are full of historic antiques, the altar which was original from Taisha mainland China, and the stele which was granted by the emperor of Ch’ing dynasty, those are the most valuable treasures in the temple. The stele was written “as great as sky” in Chinese. As the reasons above, no other temples in Houlung will be able to compare with it. It has repairing frequently, hence looks magnificent, ever since it was built, thousands of people visit here.
Lungang

The wild and mild outfall Huolung stream used to be named as “Gungshrliao”. It was a prosperous port in Ch’ing dynasty. Around 1939, some sailboats were persistently doing small trading here. However, the sand has silt up the mouth of the stream, the port is no longer to use.
Houlung stream flows into Taiwan Strait that connects 2 sides of land. Although, the port lost its function, it has a great view and the environment suits for fishes to live, a large numbers of anglers enduringly coming.
Before the shore province rd. was built, people came to Baishatuen in Tunghsiao town only depending on 1st Taiwan province Rd., now you can drive alone the shore rd. with unlimited coast view. For security issue, Miaoli gov. declaim it as a special restricted area; the restraint time in the summer is 9 PM to the 6 am next morning and 1 hour ahead in the winner
Houlung seafront area

Miaoli gov. exerts great efforts new touring spot. It is close to the outfall of Jungang stream. The area is separated 2 parts; first part close to the strait where is full of plants and zigzag pedestrian precinct. The other part close to land where is amusement park and parking lot.
The area is designed a large wooden scenic stage where can experience personally the romance of the life especially during sun-rise and sun-set that usually attract the visitor to halt the foot to linger here, can not bear to leave.
Wuai pu fishing port

位置：位於後龍濱海遊憩區南方。

Recently, Wuaipu fishing port reforms to be a touring fishing port with entertainment function form old small tradition fishing port. Comparing with the same kind of other ports, it is the largest one in Miaoli. It is declaimed as a third rank port by local gov. and located at right south of Huolung seafront area.
An interesting feature of fishing is it commonly fishing by a rod. At present, the local gov. loosens the restrictions of fishing activities. Under supporting by gov., the port has been developing into an entertainment business. It provides an excellent environment for marine animals, because the successful preserve resources of inshore fishing and fruitful nurture reefs of pelagic fishing; furthermore, in 2002, alone with assisting of the Ministry of National Defense, they sunk a warship in deep sea. Those changed Wuaipu port as a sea-fishing hotspot. Sailing out the sea for fishing only need bring an ID. for normal tourists.
Miaoli is surrounded by mountains, hence has a name of mountainous town. Basic on this, people usually ignore the beauty coast in Westside. The local gov. built wooden path around jetty, floating wharf, tourist lounge, afforesting landscape and associating with blue ocean freeway, the touring business in ocean is expected.

Wulung temple

The majority of population in Hsihu town is Hakka who believe in “Enjugung” and “Shashang emperor”. Wulung temple is also dedicated to “Maju”who is a mighty deity of “Hen”. Maju’s statue not only represent Hsihu town also the tallest stone Maju statue in the world, counting its tall from the pedestal reach to 26.66 m. The figure was depicted as a gracious woman dressed in beautiful, white flowing robes, standing in a lotus flower, holding a jade in right hand, supporting the jade with left hand. She stands tall and slender with dignified appearance that totally different with other Maju statues. The style seems like Quan Yin, goddess of mercy, protecting seafarers and travels.
This temple obvious shows that different cultures are integral parts of Taiwan. The white statue accompanies with floating cloud and blue sky and higher than other scenery making it integrity.
Shiuanwang Temple

Shianwang temple was constructed in 1982, dedicated to Confucius. That is rare in the county. In 1829, Mr. Liou founded a private school, Yung ti shu yuan, aimed to teach Hen literature. According to traditional rule of private school, it has to be dedicated to Confucius, so that all the students will be diligent and able to enhance Hen literature. In Japan colonial-era, all the Hen private schools were oppressed, very a few people mention about literary of Hen. In 1953, the school was destroyed by an earthquake. Until 1982, rebuilt it and named it as ” Shiuanwany temple” which losing the function of school.
Although Shiuanwang temple was new built, there remained an ancient stone pavilion out side of temple. The usage of it is to burn junk papers. It separates 3 floors; 2nd floor is the place burning paper; the top floor is dedicated to“Chang jie”who created written Chinese characters. The structure is being sufficiently expressing ancients highly esteem for the culture.
