Under the ruler of Kangxi emperor in Taiwan, Miaoli arranged into zhuluo county in ch’ing Dynasty (1683). In 1711, the north general, ciaiwei- Ruan, dispatched troops to Houlungshe, 2 years later, recruited the citizens of changchou province cultivating offshore plain, Henceforth decade, Miaoli fell into the quick development alone the coast share.
In 1721, the citizens of Kwangtung Province conquered terrorist of Zhuyigui, so that Kangxi emperor canceled sea-forbid in 1732. Even since then, a large number of Hakaa crowded into Taiwan; however, offshore land almost had occupied by Hoklo, they settled in hill and terrace among Taoyuan, Xinzhu, Miaoli 3 provinces. Miaoli is a Mountainous province so form it as a big Hakaa province.
In 1887, Guxi emperor set it as a province in ch’ing dynasty. 2 years later, set Miaoli city. In 1895, Taiwan was captured by Japan. It subsumed into Taichung and Xinzhu as an administrative division. In 1900 to 1914 set it as a Miaoli Ting (a designation for a certain level of government), later, fitting it to Xinzhu Ting. In 1919, it was classified into Xinzhu state. After Taiwan restored, it belonged to part of Xinzhu province. Since 1950 government adjusted administrative division, it became Miaoli province.

In the end of Ming dynasty, Chunan and offshore area take advantage on geography feature that close with Fujian province of mainland China so that became a “Jungang”. As to Ch’ing dynasty, Jungang connected Taiwan and mainland china became a one of crucial commercial port. The degree of significance is much like historic cities -“Lugang” and “Mengjig”. Numerous “Hoklo” settled here and brought their Buddhism goddess, Maju, into this area.
Ci-yu temple in
Jungang was built in Ming dynasty (1658). After it removed to another place and once fire into ash, it rebuilt again in ch’ing dynasty (1838) with dragons 2 sides.
Ci-yu temple is a historic temple alone with “Chatian temple” in Beigang, “Chalung temple” in Tiangang together named “3 goddess of Maju in Taiwan”.
In recognition of its historical value, the Ministry of Interior declared this temple a national monument with a third class rank, making it a cultural legacy of Miaoli County.
There are treasure of 3 tablets in memory of this temple and pairs of stone lions which are given by 4 emperors of Ch’ing dynasty. Because the port is silted up, Jungang is not prospering as it used to be; However, Ci-Yu temple still draw a lot disciples here. Through old street and paper stores (those special paper represents money using by ghost or god, it is a special ceremony for Buddhists) around the temple, still can peek its blooming period.
The special ceremony is held on Jan. 15th and May 5th of lunar calendar that you can not miss it.

Lungfeng temple was built in Ch’ing dynasty in 1836, worship
Maju goddess. Lungfeng and Ci-Yu temples together are named “inner and outer “Maju”. The biggest statue of Maju in southeast of Asia was finished in 1984, there are 12 floors inside of the statue, each floor has an unique view in it, ascending the coping to look down at Taiwan strait as the strong waves hitting against rocks, you might think about previous generations’ tough life. There are 2 generals stand next to Maju, one is great eyes; the other is great ears. Their mighty figures seem persuade people do good.
There is a water-pit, the age is like Lungfeng temple, It is said long time ago about 1911, residents infected with the malignant disease, the cause of disease was not clear without any medicine. people drank the water at the temple escaped the pestilence afflicting the area at that time, hence, this magic water’s fine name spread wildly, thousands of visits coming here for it. In order to keeping clear water, the water-pit is covered. The temple provide for pilgrim to drink only round festival.
Wugu temple

Wugu temple is one of significant marks in Zhunan town. Before the train entering Zhunan station from north, the tall statue of Wugu will first to be seen. It spent 10 years and more than eighty million NT. to build this temple in 1987.
Wugu temple was built in Ch’ing dynasty, in ancient age folk fished for living. The god of Wugu guided folks cultivation, therefore, China was able to enter agricultural-era. Because China depends on agriculture to build a country, Wugu take high position in Chinese culture. It is said he tasted hundreds of herbs by himself in order get rid of illness for his people. Because the mistake eats the poisonous grass, his bodies turned into black. That was the reason for his skin was black. Wugu temple worship thunder god, goddess, and rain deity and wind deity as well; those deities are all in charge of weather. People come here pray for a favorable weather, timely rain and breeze, and have plentiful harvest.

交通方式：中二高下竹南交流道後往竹南方向行駛，轉往五福大橋方向前進即可依循指標抵達。
Chunan offshore park is next to Jungang steam leaning on Wufu bridge. It has 3.6 hectares in size. It is a preserve area of mangroves which is a rare viviparous plant with flower and branches all in red so that get a name of “red bush”. Another theory says that looks like Chinese writing brush so get another cute nick of “water brush”.
Mangroves contribute to higher water quality by stabilizing bottom sediments, filtering water and providing a feeding ground food for a multitude of marine species such as Tantu fish and wetland crab, forming here as an ecosystem. In spring and fall, plenty of migratory birds step here marking it as a hotspot for bird-watch.
