Chen Xi-Town – my dearest father

Sep 1929 ~ Jan 2008

 

The time has gone by quickly since he was diagnosed as malignant hepatoma in September 2007. My father bravely faced his situation and handled it very well until his last day in the world on Jan 10, 2008 (12:12am). During this period of time, he showed extremely strong will without requiring too much from his family. He never complained and didn’t show his pain express anger. He surprised everyone who made efforts to pacify him by always smiling to anyone who approached his bedside; it made people peaceful and helped them forget about the torture that he was suffering.

Because of his strong will, the family was able to celebrate his 80^th birthday in Oct and 60^th wedding anniversary last month in Dec. All family members gathered together and shared warm heartfelt wishes, knowing this day will eventually come.  We cherished the moment and the love shared with each other. 

In order to care for his family, he held 3 different roles during his work career. Farmer; government employee and attorney. He graduated from Taichung high school during the Japan colonization and then showed his talent in handling disputes. Self equipped with legal knowledge he assisted many people to fight for their justice. Other talents include sports (e.g., table tennis, swim, etc..) and making speeches. He won several competitions and awards and demonstrated his leadership in various sport associations and communities.

He was also a very good coach. Family members of his son and daughter have been successful in a variety of areas contributing to society. He participated in media interviews and was recognized by the president of Taiwan Nation. He and his wife were both honored by the county Mayor as the annual exclusive Model Father and Model Mother.   

He loves all of us. Right now my father is in heaven looking at his 5 sons, 5 daughters-in-law; one daughter and one son-in-law; 8 grandsons, 4 granddaughters and 2 great-grand children as well as many relatives and friends. He seems to be saying don’t be sad, don’t show me tears, do your jobs, make it good…., I’ll do it too and I’ll do it best in heaven.
