I had this lecture from the multimedia course this wed. I just found this topec was pretty interesting.I thought I would nerver be interested in this kind of topic.Though,when I am really concentrated, I find this is interesting.
What is ”cyborg”,thogh?
There are several definitions.Yu can say it is somthing that is the extension of the boday;you can say it is something that is human-machine hybrid.You can also say it is something that is a creature of social reality.
There is a French multimeida artist,Orlan,who uses her own body to experiment the meaning of cyborg.She did a lot of plastic surgeries so that she doesn’t look like her anymore.She brings up the question which is ”what is beautiful”.There is also a multimedia artist from Astrulia, Steclarc, who built machines for our bodies to fit in.He designed the third arm which he can attach to the original arms.He also swallowed a little device into his stomach.I dont remember what that is for.
They all look insane,aren’t they?
But,in fact, we are all cyborgs.We wear watches; some of us weat contact lens/glasses;a few of us have pace-maker in the heart.With a broad definition, using pens/forks...is also considered the behavior of being a cyborg.
Shocked,hun? yes,i was, too when I heard it.It is true that we depend on technology so much.Technology really makes our lives easlier, which is a good thing.But,this is also the scary part because if we lose the ability to produces any technical products,what are we human beings going to do??
