Dear Lovage,
Did you have a good weekend?
Mine was fine, except the lousy ending on Sunday.
But I would rather tell you the interesting bits. The final contest in Taipei was nothing spectacular, especially when there were so many problems on the technical side. When B.H. was rehearsing, he realised that he was in big trouble, because he there was too much echoing which rendered the music inaudible. When he asked the music control technician to turn up the volume to the point at which he could hear the music, it became terribly difficult to hear his tap dance steps.
He had an excellent choice of music, but it somehow blurred the main show, which should be his steps. He was more than impressive, though, if only you could see him tap dance with no background music on. The hosts, two blokes who are as annoying as drilling sounds in your sleep, showed absolutely no respect for performers. They kept making silly comments during the dance, and they, in an attempt to keep the show interesting, would make silly sounds like "ooh--hooh!", or say things like, "Okay, here he comes..."
The location is proably a bad choice, 'cos when Sun Yen-zi came on stage, we could tell from her look that she couldn't hear the music, and as a result she was singing some parts of the Green song off beat. It's too bad for her. The crowds were crazy, though, so B.H. didn't get a chance to ask for an autograph. But he is going to audition to dance for her. So be hopeful and smile :)
Oh, and he won the fourth prize: Trip for two to Shanghai. I almost wept when he gave me a deep hug at the end of the night, when we were parting. Jeannie really likes him, and so do I. He's certainly got a lot of warmth, only I don't seem to be in his radiation zone?
Well well.
Tell me about your weekend.
Talk soon
love, P
