Well, I posted an article talk about“Getting a Ph.D is usually waste your time”, but it doesn’t mean that I agree with the negative philosophy for the training of Ph.D. I have to say that the period of getting a Ph.D taught me a lot, and it’s an important learning process in my life.
I have passion in science, and just cannot stop my curiosity about nature. Based on these characteristics, I firmly believe I could be a scientist since I was small. However, I did not consider that what it takes to become an outstanding researcher and what kind of supervising I will need in a specific science topic. I made a quick decision about what I want to do, and focused on what I want to know. I did not consider about my life, I need a stable income to support my young family. If I know who I am,and what to do, will it be better? I don’t want to judge what’s in the past. Rather, I start to thinking about what I have acquired and what I have learned from this period.
It is great to know what’s the essence andintrinsic quality of science, and what I can do. I really appreciate that many people helped me, taught me how to do research, and how to balance between work and life. They complete my research.
There are many people working hard wanting to improve the life for the entire human race. They try to make things better, make things right. However, many people have a lot in their hands, but only think about themselves. They enslave and misguide their employees and students. Position, power, and benefit. What they want to become is beyond me.
You spend time on it, you know what it is. You know your ability and who you are. You also know about your supervisor and who they are. Although I spent a lot of time on my Ph.D, I won’t say that it just wasted my time. It showed me the reality of the academic and the world, and this is what I want.
