Racism is an unfair treatment of people discriminate the other people who belong to different races. This phenomenon always happens in our societies. In the story ‘Long Long After School’, the movie ‘The Freedom Writers’ and the book ‘The Story of Anne Frank’ are about the experiences of racism the man, the children and Frank family have ever experienced. These experiences would be the worst nightmares for them. That is why racism hurts everyone involved.
First, in ‘Long Long after School’, there is a black man. He experienced racism when he was young. His classmates always made fun of him. Once, a boy steered his sled from a hill into the man, so the basket which in the man’s hands upset and all the things fell out. When the teacher came, all the boys ran away. However these were very awful, but they weren’t the most awful. He said, ‘I didn’t mind the boys so much. It was the girls. You can’t hit a girl.’ One day, the teacher showed students a new game. Students should make a big circle hand in hand, but a girl beside the man didn’t want to take the man’s hand. She said, ‘You hands are dirty.’ The man didn’t do anything to give vent to his feeling, he kept it. A person couldn’t keep his feeling all the time. He would give vent to his feeling one day. That day came finally…… In a dance party, the children had to dance with the person who next to you when the music stopped. The girl who was next to the man danced with another boy instead. So another girl who was next to the man had to dance with him. She didn’t have any choice, but she still didn’t want to. She just glanced at the man, then went away. This time, the man had had enough of that. He drove his fist through a window in the basement, then he lost lots of blood……
‘The Freedom Writers’ also is about racism. It is a movie that a group of children experienced racism and they didn’t get respects. A girl called Eva, she was one of the children. She said, ‘I saw white cops shoot my friend in the back for reaching into his pocket. I saw white cops break into my house and take my father for no reason except because they felt like it.’ These things two happened when she was a young girl. After she grew up, she still didn’t get respects from white people. The other black people and her had to worry when they were outside, because they might be killed or fighted by white people. So how could they not change? Of course they had. They didn’t respect and be polite to people either. Second, they fighted. One of the boys joined in gang, so his mother routed him out of home. Third, they didn’t want to go to study. And the last one is they hated white people. The children thought white people can do the things that they want, because they are white, these were all about the colour. It decided what people deserve. Racism caused the children got the bad things.
In the same way, the book ‘The Story of Anne Frank’ told about Germans didn’t like Jews, so they waged the war and discriminated them. Frank family was among Jews. Adolf Hitler was the leader and ruler of Germany, he made more and more rules against the Jews. These rules made Jews couldn’t go to swimming pools, libraries, theaters, museums, coffeehouses, and the zoo – signs were put up which said “Forbidden to Jews.” He made life difficult for Jews too. They began to lose their homes and jobs. But the worse was to follow…… The Germans sent Jews to work camps. In the camps, Jews didn’t have enough food to eat and clothes to wear. The camps were awful! Frank family died in there, except Otto Frank – Anne Frank’s father. Lots of people died……
Racism always brings lots of pain to people, like the man in ‘Long Long After School’, the children in ‘The Freedom Writers’ and Frank family in ‘The Story of Anne Frank’. So don’t keep doing this, it’s not their faults. They can’t choose what’s kind of people they want to be.
