Who would like to have birthday in the first week of class? Uh!!
Not that many people remember my b-day anyway. Meh, no big deal. It’s just funny how it seemed such a big deal when we were in high school and it was expected that some important people in your life would remember your b-day. So some smart guy invented a program called b-day alarm. You’d be reminded when your friend’s b-day comes up. I can’t literally remember every b-day of people on my “significant list”. This kind of thing would just stay at the back of my head. Honestly if that person is really really special in my life, I think I’ll remember his/her b-day even though I may be late for a few days. Anyhow, birthday is just one of those nice chances to say a “thank you for being special in my life” kind of thing.

It was brutally busy last week. It was tiring getting my head around all the confusing classrooms which locations never followed the number, and trying to concentrate in lectures. Plus I have to work and stuff. Oh boy! I had my first lab where I TA Calculus on Thursday. I got up early and lined up for the book swap thing Thursday morning, hoping to save some bucks on textbooks. By the time I got out of that book swap, it was already time for my lab! Shoot! I ran to the lab, not surprisingly, all my students and my supervisor were already there. Oopsy! I don’t think my supervisor would appreciate it. Oh well. She can’t fire me now anyway. Haha. So I pretended to be calm and looking like an experienced TA.
It’s neat sometimes life gives us the chance to be in different people’s shoes so that we’ll know how it feels to impose certain kinds of feelings or whatnot onto others. I was a student in the math lab for a year and now I get the chance to see how it is to be a TA. Some students are very nice to me when asking questions. Some only hoped to get the right answers out of me. Some were doubtful about my ability to handle the computer program. This chick goes, “um…actually…do you know about this program?” Shoot. I guess I know a little bit better than she does although Maple (the computer program) doesn’t like me! Do I not look professional? No, I’m not. Well, I guess you could tell by the way I walked. I was literally freaking out and trying to run to every student who raised their hands. There is this only one Chinese-looking guy in my lab, who looked so scared when asking me questions. He began with, “Sorry, I’m an international student…” I was like, well, there’s no need to be sorry about being an international! And the next day I served him at Harveys where he had no idea what a combo was and he made me so confused about what he was ordering. Gee. I wonder if he’s ever gonna understand what I talked about in the calculus lab! I kinda of feel bad for him. I know how hard it could be to study here if your English isn’t very good.

Marking is actually the fun part of TAing. I was watching TV while I was marking my first pile of assignments. I made comments and drew faces on the paper. It’s the power of the red pen! Haha! They’re paying me 8 bucks an hour to mark those papers and watch TV, haha, sweet!
