Yesterday on my way home , I saw Ted , a mentally retarded child who lives next door . He was walking happily with his mom , who was holding a box in her hand and had a smile on her face . When she saw me , she was very excited ; she took a cupcake from the box and give it to me .
She said it was made by her boy Ted , who was learning baking in the nearby bakery . It was the first time I had seen her smile in such a relaxed and confident way . After trying so hard , she had finally succeeded in helping Ted learn to do something independently. When I took a bite of the delicious cupcake and complimented her son , I saw the tears come to his mother’s eyes. Then we said good-bye to each .
As I watched the two brilliant figures disappear into the sunset , I couldn’t help thinking of the proverb:” Talents differ ; all is well and wisely put.”
ps: That’s a good story to teach children that people are born equal.
God helps those who help themselves.
