It is inevitable that as technology develops so traditional cultures must be lost. Technology and tradition are incompatible you cannot have both together.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

I strongly disagree that as technology develops so traditional cultures must be lost. In my opinion, their different parts might be influenced but not absolutely that while one grows then the other one is lost.
The best example is the media. After the television was invented, newspapers were said to be going to disappear in the world. In fact, actually, they haven’t. We still read newspapers to know what happens all over the world. New technology might bring us new life styles and change our customs but not kill traditional cultures. Even though the internet is so popular that everybody is using Email to connect each other; some people still send post cards or letters to friends and relatives. Do postoffices disappear because of email? I don’t think so.
The second point is that nothing is absolute. People just choose a better way to do everything. Factories make clothes quickly and conveniently so we don’t need to make them by ourselves. But for some people, clothes are still made by themselves for special celebrations, TAI-YA people in Taiwan, to name but a few.
There is an interesting instance that after aeroplane was invented, did other transportations like cars, buses and bicycles disappear? To go to work or school, we don’t need an aeroplane which is too big and wastes time waiting for it to take off. But if we go abroad for travelling or doing something else, we have to take an aeroplane. We just choose the best way to do what we want to do.
We have to understand that some cultures of disappearance are due to changes of trend in its necessary way, not all because of new technology. This is why I can’t agree with this statement.
