馬州巴爾的摩的一名「白人至上主義者」傑克遜(James Jackson)，2017年3月刺死66歲的非洲裔男子考夫曼(Timothy Caughman)，日前在紐約市曼哈頓刑事法庭認罪，13日被判無期徒刑，不准假釋。
30歲的傑克遜是曾於阿富汗服役的白人退伍軍人，他於2017年3月在紐約時報廣場附近持劍殺害66歲的非洲裔男子考夫曼；傑克遜在行凶前曾跟蹤許多非洲裔男子，最終選擇考夫曼；案發時，考夫曼正在收集回收瓶子，傑克遜用劍從後襲擊致其重傷，考夫曼跌跌撞撞走入警局報案，但最終因失血過多送醫不治。
傑克遜1月23日在紐約市曼哈頓刑事法庭對所有針對他的指控認罪，包括謀殺和仇恨犯罪等六項罪名，他在認罪時稱，自己是專程從巴爾的摩前往紐約行兇，因為紐約是世界媒體的焦點，他殺人目的是為進一步攻擊非洲裔做練習，震懾非洲裔群體，並挑

傑克遜的辯護律師索辛斯基(Frederick Sosinsky)表示，傑克遜並不是一個族裔歧視者，只是從阿富汗服役回來後精神崩潰，「他只是單純的找不到人生方向」，傑克遜也在法庭上道歉，並表示若能從頭再來，絕對不會做出這樣的事；但考夫曼的家人與朋友無法接受，他們對此判決感到失望，「考夫曼永遠回不來了，但傑克遜卻在獄中生活」。
