今年第一號強烈颱風「尼伯特」來襲前夕，台中市議員吳瓊華為預防大豪雨造成災害，昨（六）日邀集大里溪沿線各里里長及市政府水利局，巡視烏日區轄內各抽水站運作情形，確保各抽水站都能正常運作，同時呼籲民眾做好防颱準備，保護自身安全。（如圖）
吳瓊華昨天邀里長上午10時至五張犁抽水站，擔心尼伯特颱風會造成水患。
吳瓊華指出，烏日區地勢低窪，匯聚南台中水系的排水，雖然區內已有2座抽水站，但民眾面對「尼伯特」強烈颱風即將侵襲台灣之際，仍憂心忡忡，要求在各條溪流增設抽水站，確保安全。她針對抽水站運作狀況及危機處理，要求水利局科長陳世玉要謹慎提防。
吳瓊華說，烏日區大里溪畔，過去每遇豪雨必淹，市政府在環中路及環河路交叉口興建「五張犁抽水站」設置5組抽水機，抽水效率等同26部大型抽水機，並建有可滯洪容量約為1萬5500立方公尺的調節池，改善2500戶商家與住戶免遭受淹水之苦，改善淹水面積達238公頃。
