Confused About Google's List

I recently received another 'please help' mail from a gentleman called Ian who runs a venture company in Tanzania (http://www.betheladventure.co.uk ). To get a different standpoint, consider peeping at: commercial index backlinks. Ian was worried about the consequence of a variety of problems including indexing and url dampening, and was desperate for help. Unfortuitously, he'd read some relatively misleading articles previously, so he had a somewhat confusing knowledge of the factors at play. I chose to publish the details of our conversation, since I believe he's perhaps not alone in his concern and distress.

Ian's mail consisted of many questions. I have shown each individually below, accompanied by my reaction.

Q: When I look for the amount of backlinks to my site using 'link:www.betheladventure.co.uk', I see only 23 results. Be taught further on the affiliated site by visiting does linklicious work. It appears that only 23 of our backlinks have survived Google's dampening link filter. Is there a period delay before they are awarded to some site? '

A: Firstly, I believe you could have the dampening link filter a little confused. Based on the dampening link filter theory, your links are observed and identified by Google, you just don't obtain the full benefit from them until a given time period has elapsed. The dampening link filter (if it exists) does not stop links from appearing in Google's benefits whenever you search for them. (The only reason your backlinks might not can be found in a Google search is if Google has not yet listed the pages containing the links.) Also, don't worry too much about things such as the dampening link filter. To begin with, it is definately not established / accepted fact. Several well regarded Search Engine Optimisation professionals don't believe in it in any way. Furthermore, even when it does occur, it only affects those companies with the budget to create the huge numbers (hundreds or thousands probably) of links reputedly needed to trigger it. If your quantity of backlinks suddenly increases by 2-0, that is no issue.

And secondly, don't think anything Google lets you know. By looking for 'link:www.betheladventure.co.uk', you generally speaking only visit a small proportion of actual links to your site. The best way to search for links would be to search for only the URL 'www.bethaladventure.co.uk', then on-the page that displays next, select 'Find web pages that contain the word 'www.bethaladventure.co.uk' .' If you do it this way, you'll see most of the pages that contain your URL. Generally, the URL is likely to be an energetic link (or at the least it should be, and you should keep these things make it so). To study additional info, you are asked to take a gaze at: best is linklicious good. When you try this search, you'll observe that your website has about 169 links, maybe not 2-3.

Q: Still another question is approximately found pages (using site:www.betheladventure.co.uk). I realize it is a record of pages which have been changed. I had 32, it went down to 28 and now this morning it's down to 26. Do they only keep the pages for monthly or can there be more towards the indexed pages than I realized?

A: The number of indexed pages is merely the number of pages on your site that Google 'is aware of.' Theoretically, the only real time the age of a page is needed is if the page is also young*, i.e. Google lions have not visited it however, or Google hasn't updated its list. As to the reasons the reported number of indexed pages is reducing, I imagine it's only a temporary transfer. The number of leads to Google's searches varies just about constantly.

*Actually, formally speaking, it's been suggested that Google is not capable of indexing all 11.5 million pages currently thought to be on the web (and the 10 million more that are added everyday), and that as it indexes new pages, old pages are forced from the list. (This is a very rough description of the idea - if it's happening at all, it's likely to be much more difficult than this.) If this is happening, it may explain why the reported number of indexed pages is reducing. A good way to take care of it's to maintain high quality information, to generate a Google sitemap, to keep generating backlinks, and to keep increasing it, even though I think it's a long-shot. To find out more about sitemaps, go-to http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login.. To download a free - and very helpful - tool for producing a site-map, go to http://johannesmueller.com/gs/..

I know there is a great deal of confusion surrounding these dilemmas, so I hope you've found this trade beneficial.

Happy indexing!. To check up additional info, consider looking at: linklicious.com.
