For decades, Japanese glass floats were a big find on Oregon's shoreline, having drifted 1000s of miles after fishing boats lost these smooth, crystalline balls, used to keep their nets afloat. It had been a tradition among coastal people to scour the shores for them, and many natives still enhance their cabins or porches with them. They almost disappeared in the 80's, and are extremely rare finds nowadays.
Now, a fresh glass drift tradition is growing on the coast, with several artist glass baseball coming stores producing beautiful, innovative artwork and arriving within the last couple of decades.
