查維茲1998年首登大聯盟，起初效力於奧克蘭運動家，是「魔球軍團」的一員，2001年至2006年連續拿下6座金手套獎，2002年則是靠著單季34轟、109分打點的表現拿下生涯唯一1座銀棒獎。
