Throughout the first course, you spent a lot of time learning the basics, like introducitons, numbers and a lot of time on the simple present tense. Now, the term of the 2nd course, we're goin' to be getting into a lot of grammar, as well as good bit of syntax which is word order. And I'm going to speak a lot more Spanish to you. So, "¡presta atención!" Like I said before, hoy aprenderás de las professiones y las preguntas.

Hoy, today, you will be learning, aprenderás de las profressiones y las preguntas. ¡Empecemos!
Now the term, learn Spanish 2, I think it's time we start practicing with some full sentences. Let's go ahead and start with activity for this lesson. I'm going to ask you some questions and all you have to do is to read the answer aloud. You're going to be using the verb, trabajar, a lot and it means to work, it's regular AR verb, so you should have no trouble and we've already conjugated for you. But I want you to "presta atención a la Información. And we'll go over all the details later. ¿Listo?
¿Por qué hace él?
es policía.
la policía = policewoman.
el policía = policeman
recepcionista la recepcionista
el recepcionista
¿Dónde trabaja la enfermera?
Trabaja en el hospital.
¿Cuándo va a su trabajo?
Va a las ocho y media de la mañana.
¿Por qué es cocinero?
Porque le gusta cocinar.
¿por qué? = why?
porque = because
To differentiate this while you´re speaking, it´s all about the tone. ¿por qué? (with rising intonation) it´s a quesitons. porque (flat) is because..

¿Cuánto gana el camarero cada hora?
Gana diez dolares cada hora.
¿Cómo es el músico?
Es muy talentoso.
¿Quién trabaja en el aeropuerto?
El piloto trabaja en el aeropuerto.
¿Es peligroso ser bombero?
Sí, es muy peligroso cuando hay un fuego.
Vale, muchas frases, ¿no? Una cosa importante es el tilde.
The tilde is a written accent and it´s used in all interrogative or question words in Spanish. I mentioned this in the earlier lesson explaining differences between "dónde" as a question and "donde" meaning just where.
¿dónde...? Where?
donde ........... Where
For questions that you can just answer yes or no, you don´t need an interrogative word, all you have to do is change your tone of your voice. Let´s take the last question and answer set as an example.
¿Es peligroso ser bombero?
Is it dangerous to be a fireman? (the infinite prep. "a" was omitted by Ms. Whitmire in oral expression in this video.)Or it´s just a sentence, it´s dangerous to be a fireman. You'll say,
Es peligroso ser bomero (flat tone)
Did you hear the difference?
Another thing to know about questions is that word order is going to be a little different than regular statement. Normalmente, in a statement, the subjects precede the verb, like this sentence.
Antonio es mecánico.
subject, then verb.
If we're going to ask if Antonio is a mechanic, all we have to do is switch the subject and the verb and change the tone of the phrase.
¿Es Antonio mecánico?
You use the same word order for questions with interrogative words as well.
¿Qué hace él?
What does he do? Qué is the interrogative word, hace is the verb, and then the subject, él.
¿Dónde trabaja ella?
Question word, verb, subject.
Remember, you don´t need to include the subject él or ella unless the subject is kinda ambiguous or you're trying to point out him specifically or her specifically.
When talking about professions, do NOT use indefinite articles with the professions as in English.
Soy profesora de español.
I am a Spanish teacher.
while you say "a" in English, you don't say "una" en español. Pretending that you wrote me a letter asking me about the professions of my family but your questions are a little scrambled up. Using what you just learned about word order and questions, unscramble the phrases and say them all aloud, and then I´ll answer, por ejemplo, here you can see
¿hace / qué / tu padre?
Unscramble the words so that you have the question.
¿Qué hace tu padre?
Then I´ll answer,
Mi padre es agricultor.
simple, ¿no? Te toca.
¿Por qué es tu madre vendedora?
Porque le gusta la ropa.
¿Cuándo trabaja tu hermana?
Mi hermana trabaja a las tres y media de la tarde.
¿Dónde trabajan tus hermanos?
Tyler es marinero y trabaja en el mar.
Porter es soldado y no sé donde trabaja.
¡Muy bien! ¿recuerdas no sé?That's really important phrase, it means I don't know
No sé = I don´t know.
You definitely need to use this when you need to answer whole lots of questions, right?
Now we're coming upon the end of the lesson. There are few more things that I want you to practice. A lot of time you're speaking a new language, you have the tendency to translate every single word, and you get lost in the conversation and you don't even know what's going on. You may not remember what the general idea was. This is specially true when it comes to the question. And the interrogative words are words you definitely need to remember very well or you will not have any idea of what the person is trying to ask you.

El cartero trabaja en la oficina de correos.
¿Qué significa dónde?
Dónde significa where.
¿Qué hace el fotógrafo? Saca fotos
El fotógrafo saca fotos.
Qué? = what?
¿Quién trabaja en la oficina?
El hombre de negocios y la recepcionsita trabajan en la oficina.
quién? = who?
¿Cuándo va al trabajo la sirvienta? A las ocho de la mañana
La sirvienta va al trabajo a las 8 de la mañana.
cuándo? = when?
¿Por qué es veterinaria? Le gustan los animales
Es veterinaira porque le gustan los animales.
por qué? = why?
