大陸青海省海北州在台灣時間今（8）日凌晨1點45分，發生規模6.9的強震，由於震源深度10公里，在當地引起不小恐慌。地震前就有監視器拍下，在地平線閃出耀眼強光，下一秒就開始劇烈晃動，引起網友熱烈討論。另外台灣也曾出現過這種地震光的現象。

根據《新浪新聞》報導，在青海地震發生前1秒，在門源縣所屬皇城鄉拍到，地平線突然出現強烈的地震光，提供監控錄像的胡先生表示，監控是自家牧場的監控，當時拍攝方向是長硫磺溝的方向。胡先生說，地震時他正在睡夢中，是等到地震過後去查看監視畫面，才意外發現這種情景。據了解，監控畫面所在位置距離震央西南方18公里處。
其實地震光是屬於一種自然現象，根據「維基百科」指出，地震光是在地震發生時，受震動波及之區域上空所出現的光。地震光的出現方式與極光非常相似。光譜範圍可以是由白至藍，不過人們偶然會看到更多光譜中的顏色出現在地震光中。地震光的持續時間由幾秒至幾十秒不等。地震光的大小和亮度不一定與地震能量、地震規模或地震震度成比例。有時地震時所產生的電磁波會干擾無線電通訊。

地震光的成因，目前主流的說法為，岩石間劇烈摩擦產生電能，產生巨大的熱量使土壤中的水急劇蒸發，分解出氫、氧等兩種氣體，電荷放電點燃了氣體就會產生強烈的耀光。過去曾在不少地方出現過地震光，例如，1920年中國海原縣發生的海原大地震、1965年日本長野縣發生的松代大地震、1976年在河北省發生的唐山大地震和2016年日本熊本縣發生的熊本地震、台灣臺南市發生的高雄美濃地震、2018年花蓮地震以及2021年格雷羅地震都有的地震光出現。
