It's only an image of a pipe...
In class, I've been told time and again to look beyond the image. And be careful about the media and the so-called “reality” they hand to us. Why? Because if we are not careful the media will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppression. Also we have to be aware that the press is owned by the rich and powerful who only wants certain things to reach the public.
Not surprisingly, the product of the media, what appears, what doesn't appear, the way it is slanted, will only reflect the interest of sellers and buyers (not the general public). To make matter worse, there are now all sorts of filtering devices to get rid of people who are pain in the neck and think differently. In addition, tons of examples indicate that stories which meets every traditional standard of objective journalism are retracted or renounced, not because they are false, but…a very big but, because they are true.
Perhaps the optimistic might think at least we've got more alternative sources and access to obtain information nowadays. But do you truly believe the proliferation of news network and Websites really means the addition of information and perspective? Or it simply means there's more and more information (to be more specifically, misinformation) teaching you how to think the right thoughts (wherever you are, however you listen) which only serve the interests of the world’s richest and most powerful? And they called it mass communication! (What sort of communication is that?) We are merely the recipients of programming. Small wonder then that what goes on in the little box-like device is called TV “program.”
“We are accustomed to use our eyes only with the memory of what other people before us have thought about the objective we are looking at,” said Guy de Maupassant. To be able to de-program, we have to be vigilant, and skeptical of the official statement, public relations, and the information that being given to us. Discern, highlight, and then challenge the deceit, lies, hypocrisy, half-truths, the abuse of power, etc and lastly, pray.
Remember,"when everyone thinks the same, that means nobody's thinking.”
