Delicious New York Eatery-recommended by 謝思寧

每年都有一段時間在紐約晃盪,除了踢踏舞,到處找好吃又價格合理的餐廳,是踢踏舞者謝思寧的嗜好。

剛開始看旅遊指南到小義大利區吃飯,花上台幣兩三千塊也無滋味。現在她可累積了一個美食花名單(菜單起價7、8美元,約台幣200多元的餐廳),一頓飯15~30美元(約台幣500元~1,000元)就可吃得開心,慷慨拿出來供大家參考。

The Pink Tea Cup 超好吃的靈魂食物

Soul Food其實是黑人食物的意思。吃的還真顏色深重,較受歡迎的是鮭魚球,超好吃的是裹薄薄一層香料的炸雞,地瓜派(SWEET PATATO PIE)很細膩,比思吉比台灣速食店紮實。

Caracas Arepa Bar 委內瑞拉童話小屋

店面小、桌子小,牆上可愛的裝飾畫,好有童趣,而且好多熟客,把店裡烘得暖洋洋的。

招牌菜袋餅,用玉米粉製的薄脆小袋皮塞餡,餡料近20種,牛肉、黑豆豬肉、素菜等,再抹入番茄酪梨醬、起司炸香蕉,統統塞進巴掌大的餅袋裡。

這真是味覺顛覆的一刻,誰能知道鹹肉跟香蕉竟很合味呢!別放過桌上的祕魯調味醬,以胡椒蒜頭和荷蘭芹調和的。

Cafe Gitane 為晚起幸福人而開

這是一家專為晚睡晚起又注重飲食健康的人所開的店,一整天都賣法式早餐,菜單有些什麼呢?芒果草莓綠沙拉、嫩烤雞串配花生沾醬、鮪魚肉肝醬球配朝鮮薊,都不油膩,熱巧克力好可愛,泡沬還弄出小狗爪子花樣哩。

.地鐵:6線搭到Spring St.站;B、D、F、V線搭到Broade-way-Lafayette St.站。

Pink Pony 年輕藝術家的法國基地

這家法國餐廳,是墨客文人愛去的地方。音樂不俗,老闆常慷慨的借場地給年輕藝術家演出,牆上有小野洋子、安迪沃荷等藝文人士在此留下的照片,店裡也常有氣質帥哥出現。

最好吃的是拿破崙酥烤茄子,乃人間美味,配奶油咖哩醬燴薏米。也可嘗北非的經典肉食料理庫斯庫斯COUSCOUS,還有魚排菠菜奶油飯也不錯。

Le Pain 健康的麵包天堂

有機健康餐廳,最拿手的是法式麵包,店裡擺著厚實原木桌,每張桌上的菜單都用乾掉的麵包夾著,令人莞爾。

最幸福的吃法是最簡單的吃法,一籃各式穀類製成的法國麵包(baquete)、白煮蛋、配免費花生奶油杏仁醬,或另點法式杏桃醬,加一大杯牛奶。

也有火腿、沙拉,飲料還有熱蘋果汁、豆漿。此外每天都有有機蔬菜濃湯,紅甜菜根湯最有人氣。愛看帥哥更要照過來,老闆愛雇用歐洲帥哥服務生。

Everyone here raves about Junior’s. There is one in Brooklyn and a second branch in the food concorse at Grand Central Terminal.

About cheesecake - there are basically two kinds in NYC: Italian and New York (sometimes known as Jewish cheesecake). Italian cheesecake is made with mainly ricotta cheese, so it is more ”cheesy”, or softer and fluffier. New York cheesecake is usually made without or with very little ricotta cheese, and is therefore more ”cakey”, richer and sweeter. Both types have various degrees of ”bite”, or tangy aftertaste.

The best Italian cheesecake D’aiuto’s. D’auito’s is located near Penn Station, 405 8th Avenue. Veniero’s is also good.
The best New York cheesecake is Junior’s. The orginal location is on Flatbush and Dekalb Avenues in Brooklyn. Great classic American restaurant, with great sandwiches. The other location is in the concourse of Grand Central Terminal.
Instead of graham crackers or whatnot, its crust is actually very thin spongecake. (Just for fairness’ sake, many also think that Carnegie Deli and Ellen’s run neck-and-neck right behind Junior’s, but I disagree.)

If it makes you feel better, we have the cheesecake Factory here in our Florida town but it is NOTHING compared to the strawberry cheesecake we had at Carnegie Deli and the Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake we had at Junior’s. From the first bite, those were vastly superior to what I had at the chain!

I adore cheesecake and am somewhat an expert lover of them and I would have to say surprisingly that whilst juniors have good large portions and are very nice the best we had was from planet hollywood. It was large and creamy and not as tangy as juniors was just a lot nicer all round!
I know it may not be believable but honestly trust me!
at juniors either share a meal of say burger and fries or do what we do and have a salad....they are also huge but not as filling as the huge things they sell! we still took half the cheesecake back to the hotel.

Junior’s... plain and simple
either go to grand central (my favorite place in the world) or take the train to dekalb in brooklyn (1st stop over the bridge) and walk on over...

Rule of thumb: Don’t eat at a chain restaurant when you travel especially in NYC. A Cheesecake Factory is a Cheesecake Factory is a Cheesecake Factory.
Try something new! Juniors is an excellent choice!

Juniors is by far my favorite. If you happen to go to Morton’s Steakhouse or Sparks for dinner - their cheesecake is excellent too!
