VERSION 1:::::

   I have a fervent interest in Journalism and I wish to be a journalist. Therefore, I would like to pursue a course in communications at university in order to become more analytical and proficient in languages.

   Journalism plays a very important role in our society. Telling the facts to public objectively and the ability to think independently are the basic criteria of being a journalist. I always meet this requirement as I have strong civic-awareness. I like observing the world, thinking and expressing my own opinions. Whenever I read about controversial issues from the mass media, I always like to discuss them with my family and friends.

   The mass media bears the responsibilities to educate and help teenagers develop a set of values. I strongly believe that public education is provided not only by the government, but also reinforced by the society as a whole. Recent perceptions of declining moral standards of the mass media have served to strengthen my wish to become a journalist. I hope I can participate in the field to improve the worsening situation. I believe that journalists can greatly influence the pillars of tomorrow.

   As I was an editor of the school’s Chinese Newspaper in Form 6, I was familiar with the procedures of producing materials for publication. I invited guest’s speakers to our school-conducted interview. I enjoyed writing articles and reporting campaigns and activities at school. All the above experiences made me feel proud of being a “mini-journalist” and I believe I am a suitable candidate for studying Journalism.

   Moreover, I served as one of the committee members of English Club and Sunshine Generation, a peer-counseling group. Through these posts, I gained a lot. In organizing extra-curricular activities, I had a wider social circle and learnt to be more responsible. They also helped me improve my organizational and leadership skills.

   Apart from these, I spend my leisure time on voluntary services that give me a chance to interact with people from different backgrounds. My attitude had altered. I am now more patient, optimistic and confident. I also have a brighter outlook on life. This makes me more mature and will no doubt be useful for adapting to university life.

   With the qualities and experiences I mentioned above, I hope to be given an opportunity to enrich and equip myself for my future career.

***
It is quite lucky to get this back from an old floppy.
This passage was my introduction letter to Universities such that they can choose to give an special offer to me or not.
Obviously,I was not successful.
But, being a journalist was really my dream career when I was Form 7.
Although I feel that I was quite stupid to write down this ridiculous passage,
I am happy to say that:::
”Oh~~~This is my PAST!~That’s how I think and how I act 4 years ago......”
