台灣有品運動 以品德為基礎

對於「台灣有品運動」，選出包括:天主教樞機主教單國璽、雲門舞集創辦人林懷民、奧運國手蘇麗文、環保歌手王力宏、及作詞家方文山等5位名人，擔任「有品大使」，引發各界質疑評選標準，教育部長鄭瑞城表示，這些有品大使只是代表，未來還會徵詢各界意見，選出更多的「好樣團」，而「有品」的概念除了透過課程融入教學外，還要透過計畫性補助持續推動。
教育部在「台灣有品運動」啟動記者會，邀請5位代表擔任「有品大使」，教育部長鄭瑞城說，有品運動包含品德、品質、品味，但是品德是一個基礎，不能有品質、品味，但沒有品德。這5位有品大使是在各領域視為有品的代表，未來還可徵詢意見、找到更多人成為好樣團，作為社會的榜樣，也有人說，品德教育應該從課程改革做起，鄭部長說，將品德教育融入課程很重要，而課程教學和計畫性補助是可以相輔相成的。
鄭部長說，希望社會用比較正面的態度，看待「有品運動」，對於各界不同看法，教育部會虛心瞭解、檢討，作為未來推動的重要參考。

The
Ministry of Education launched its “Virtuous Taiwan” campaign June 17, aiming
to help citizens reach new heights in character, quality of life and taste.
The
NT$1.2-billion (US$36.4 million) 18-month program, which was unveiled in a
ceremony at the main hall of Taipei Railway Station, will promote
character-building education, grounding in the arts, lifelong reading and
environmental sustainability.
Speaking
at the event, President Ma Ying-jeou stated he has always abided by the
principle of treating others sincerely and undertaking tasks respectfully. In
his view, being a sincere person and conscientious in what you do makes life
better. Personal deportment with character, doing quality work and living a
life of good taste constitute the new Taiwan spirit, he said.
Echoing
the president’s sentiments, Education Minister Cheng Jei-cheng recollected how
he took the train every day from Suao Township to Yilan City
during his middle and high school years. At every stop along the way, he
observed the stationmaster greeting the train in a formal fashion before seeing
it off in a similarly dignified manner. Chang said seeing the railway employees
perform their jobs with such devotion attested to the virtues of Taiwanese
people.
Following
the ceremony, Ma and Cheng accompanied a group of youngsters who will start
elementary school this year on a train trip from Taipei Railway Station to
Banqiao Station, symbolizing the need to cultivate virtue from a young age.
To help
implement the MOE campaign, five “ambassadors of virtue” were appointed by the
ministry. These are lyricist Fang Wen-shan, Cloud Gate dance troupe founder Lin
Hwai-min, Cardinal Paul Shan, taekwondo athlete Su Li-wen and singer Wang Lee-hom.
In
addition, Delta Electronics Chairman Bruce Cheng, long-distance runner Lin
Yi-chieh, Internet cartoonist Wan Wan and others were chosen as role models.
They will be responsible for visiting schools and interacting with students to
promote the importance of building character.
According
to the MOE, the character education component of the project will utilize
innovative teaching methods to instill students with good character. Lifelong
reading sees all of 2009’s
new first graders receive books so as to develop regular reading habits, while
grounding in the arts will involve artists visiting schools. Environmental
sustainability aims to foster an attitude of respect and caring for Mother
Nature.
In
related news, the MOE released results from a poll of 4,064 school principals
and university presidents throughout Taiwan June 17. The administrators
identified “respecting life,” “piety toward parents and elders,” “shouldering
responsibility,” “integrity and trustworthiness” and “being a team player” as
