Interestingly, I have never consider myself
as a artist, every time when I told to others that I want to be a performer or
actor, they always looked me in a very expecting way and waited for a promising
and brave story, I feel sick of it sometime. To me, if there any possible that
it exist a career called ‘Artist’, it means a privilege to discover or develop something
inspiring or fascinating: a totally freedom, but on the other side, it also
means totally fear.
Back to the topic, what kind of artist I
want to be? What kind of thing interesting me? I try to looking back what I
wrote in the first production class, I find that those key words I wrote are
all abstract, because the clear answer keep changing.
I born and live in Taiwan and it is my first
time come to UK, therefore the culture exchange would be interesting me, I like
to see what happen when Chinese opera meet Shakespeare, Chinese clown meet
Western clown, how you think of performance? How you run a show? How you
cultivate a performer? How you think of a ‘good’ show? How you consider the relationship
between audience and performer? How you develop a show? What you concern the
most in theatre? Not just telling me, but practicing with me, I hop those interactions
happen not only in my mind, but also in my body.
In addition, I also concern about the relationship
between people and their surrounding, what sort of attitude we choose when we
face our home, school, street, city, and those place belong your memory? How a
performer ‘play’ with environment? The earth create human, human change environment,
environment become the landscape, the landscape is visible culture of humanity,
and human live below it, in this complicated and endless loop, I try to find
every standpoint, their beauty, their sorrow. For me, everyone have their own
invisible cities.
Forgiving my poor English and words not accurate
enough to what it really means, but so far, those things I mention before is
what I really interesting, and I believe it would be good starting points.
