渡
Ferrying to Deliver

應該是冬末春初吧，
Supposed it's sometime between end of winter and beginning of spring,

有事經過台北植物園，
I need to do something by passing the Taipei Botanical Garden,

看見工人正在清理蓮花池。
Seeing workers cleansing the lotus pond .

蓮花池原本種了蓮花，
The pond used to fill the lotus blossoms, planted,

每到夏天就會放滿池子的大朵蓮花，美極了！
Each summer there gonna be lotus flowers in full bloom making what a beautiful huge lotus filled the pond it'd be!

但一些沒有公德心，也沒有生態常識的遊客，
However some uncivilized visitors lack of public morals sans any ecological common sense, hereby releasing living creatures,

卻在這裡，
將買來的烏龜放生，
Setting free living captive turtles which have nibbled or even gobbled down to eat up devouring
the lotus pod roots and stalks

以致於把蓮花的根和莖都啃光了，蓮花也因而大量死亡。
Hence mass death of the pond lotus causing such a lotus-lesd pond,

沒有蓮花的池子，
卻長了一種水生植物──水芙蓉。
as a result there grown a kinf of water lettuce or water cabbage filing the water pond,

水芙蓉長滿了水池，
Thus perishing all the dying lotus flowers

已經奄奄一息的蓮花更無法生存了。因此植物園的主管找來工人清理水芙蓉。
That's why the manager of the garden sent for workers to clear up the water lettuce or water cabbage which are not so pretty as lotus

比起蓮花來說，水芙蓉雖然不夠漂亮，但滿池子的水芙蓉，綠油油的，
However the pond filled with water cabbages all in greening

還是相當美麗，加上工人搭著竹筏，
Still looking great whereas the workers riding their bamboo raft crisscrossing

穿梭在水芙蓉中，
Shuttling to and fro0 amid the water lettuces,

著實令人看了感動。
Making such a genuinely moving and touching scene to see.
於是，第二天，起個大早，背著照像機，再度來到植物園，
So the next day I brought with my camera revisiting the garden.

拍了好幾張照片。
Making some snapshots,

其中一張變成了我的參考圖片，
One of which I used as my reference photo,

把它用壓克力，畫成目前這幅〈渡〉，
acrylic painting into this one entiltled
Du, Ferrying to Deliver

並且套用鄭愁予詩作〈錯誤〉中的句子，寫了一首小詩〈水芙蓉〉：
