此首《Sorrow》最早是由美國搖滾樂團The McCoys於1965錄唱發行，唯是作為翻唱歌曲《Fever》的B面 ( 該單曲獲得排行榜第7名，B面歌曲無排行名次。)。次年 ( 1966 )，英國雙人合唱組合The Merseys翻唱此曲，頗受歡迎，在英國排行榜獲得第4名。1973，英國歌手David Bowie亦發行此曲翻唱版，同樣在英國排行榜獲得第3名之佳績。

David Bowie是「華麗搖滾—以性別模糊及亮麗的妝扮作為舞台造型」的代表人物之一。1972，他所創造的舞台角色Ziggy Stardust ( 一位自外太空降臨地球的雌雄同體搖滾客 )，這個角色的成功及其標誌性的造型使Bowie成為國際巨星。

Bowie對自身性取向的定義有過多次變化。他在1972年宣布自己“一直是同性戀”，1976年說 “我是雙性戀”，1983年又改口稱自己是“深櫃的異性戀”，而媒體普遍相信他是雙性戀。由網站資料，Bowie的花名冊共有41位，其中男性僅占5位 ( 包括滾石的Mike Jagger )，女性中則有「玉婆」伊麗莎白泰勒  。Bowie共結過兩次婚，第一任妻子Angela Bowie (1970—1980，後8年為分居狀態，育有一兒。)；第二任妻子為美裔索馬利亞的黑人超模Iman，自1992結婚至2016 Bowie因肝癌去世 ( 69歲 )，此24年期間，Bowie確無再有同性或雙性戀紀錄。
